I found this page over at the wonderful Pornocratese. They’re dirty pictures by an eighteenth century artist, Thomas Rowlandson, 1757 - 1827. Bawdy is definitely the word for them, and funny too. They look like a cross between the old political cartoons from my history books, and playboy cartoons. And somehow they manage to be sexy too. Hmm. I just love the way the fleshy bits of the women are rendered, especially their asses.
On a related site, to go with your victorian porn cartoons, is the ever popular Victorian porn book collection. Not your mom’s Harlequin, this is quite filty, if you can get past the constant use of words like quim.
